An Ode to the Rock 'n Play
Natalie and Max didn't sleep as babies. We heard about babies that slept through the night (or even just decently well during the night) and thought that their parents were up to some sort of voodoo magic because no way does a baby actually sleep. Then along came Emma. We haven't really had a bad night's sleep with Emma (yet! It's coming! Read on!). I'll give Emma and her personality some of the credit for the amazing sleep we've been getting, but I'm giving most of the credit to her wonderful little cradle, the Rock 'n Play.
It rocks, it's inclined, it hugs her little body, it plays white noise and music, it sprinkles magic sleeping dust into the air or something.
We love this thing. That's why today is so sad. Emma's rolling has really picked up over the last 24 hours or so. She has been able to roll both ways for a while now, but she didn't do it very often until just a couple days ago. Now she doesn't stay in one position for too long before she rolls to another. That's our sign to move out of the Rock 'n Play and into the crib. It's not safe for her to be in the Rock 'n Play once she wants to move and roll around.
So tonight we put away the Rock 'n Play, and I'm going to bed early, fully expecting a hard night.
So long, old friend.

4th of July
We were in Yates Center over the 4th and had a great time despite off and on rain throughout the day. Our cookout at my aunt's house had to be moved inside, but the rain let up right as it got dark enough for fireworks, so we set off some pretty neat fountains back at my parents' right before the kids went to bed. Other highlights of our trip included the kids' first s'mores, playing at the park, and (as always) collecting rocks from the driveway.
