This Week

We are all healthy this week after a week of sickness last week, and it feels so wonderful to have everything back to normal!

Emma had fun at story time this morning. They were learning about the letter P, so they got to wear their pajamas and they painted a muddy pig for their craft.

Max, Emma, and I ate beef nachos for lunch with Natalie at school yesterday. Max likes trying out the school lunches and the school lunch rules to get ready for kindergarten next year.

These bitterly cold days have us dreaming of spring. Max has still managed to get some tree climbing in though.

Update

Whew! Despite my best efforts, blogging in the evenings just hasn't been doable lately. Growing a new little person zaps my energy, so most nights I'm asleep on the couch long before my usual blogging time. I really don't want to neglect the blog though because I love looking back on past posts, so maybe I can attempt posting during the day. We'll see!

Anyway, here's a quick update on our life lately:

We have been cooped up most days because of the cold weather, so we have had to get creative with our play. I saw this pouring water idea online, and while Max wasn't interested for very long, it has provided hours of entertainment for Emma over the last couple weeks.

Our biggest (non-baby) news is that Emma is recovering spectacularly from her first surgery to remove the spot on her head. Last year her pediatrician explained to us that the spot would continue to grow with her head and that it could become troublesome in puberty, so we had planned to have it removed for some time now.

She had her first of hopefully only two surgeries on Monday at Children's Mercy in Overland Park, and we are all very pleased with how it went. Her surgeon reported that he was able to get 80% of it when he had expected to get only 50%-75% this first time. It's amazing how quickly little kids heal! She hasn't needed any pain meds since the day of surgery, and we can see her incision noticeably get better with each day that passes.

We went to Overland Park Sunday because her surgery was first thing Monday morning. That meant shopping, eating, and fun in the hotel. The first thing Emma did when we walked in the room was jump on the bed saying, "Bounce, bounce, bounce!"

Since we have been home from Kansas City, we have been Lysoling the house. Natalie got sick for my mom while we were away and stayed home from school yesterday, and today is Max's turn. They have been doing a lot of writing, drawing, and reading while they rest.

New Baby!

We are so excited to announce that we're expecting another sweet baby later this year! July 29th is the official due date, which makes me just over 12 weeks along.

We told the kids the big news over the weekend with a fun cake for dessert Saturday night. Natalie read the message to us all with the sweetest wide eyes and gaping mouth. She and Max are both hoping for a baby brother, and Max has already suggested the name Johnny Appleseed.

I think pregnancy gets more exciting and awe-inspiring with each new baby. So far this fourth pregnancy has been my most relaxed and maybe even most exciting. I'm really trying to enjoy this special time of excitedly anticipating a new little love. I'm so excited to learn all about this newest little one, and I can't wait to see who he or she will become!

Kiwi Crates

My great-aunt Sis got the kids each three-month subscriptions to Kiwi Crate for Christmas. They each get a box in the mail once a month with a few art and/or science activities geared towards their specific ages. This month Emma got a peek-a-boo farm, Max's box was dinosaur themed, and Natalie's box was about rainbow optics. We had a lot of fun making all of their projects this morning. Thanks, Sis!

Last Day of Christmas Break

Natalie goes back to school tomorrow, so we went to the new Hesston Bakery for breakfast this morning. Emma and Max shared and enormous cinnamon roll, and Natalie chose a blueberry scone. This is only our second time to eat at the bakery, but we're all big fans!
